I'm working on a financial model much like many in the past and have run into
a problem with Excel crashing everytime (100%) I try to add a row to the
spreadsheets. Details,
-the workbook contains many worksheets (one for each office) all are
identical in format.
-Row insertion is on multiple worksheets at one time.
-Workbook is linked to another workbook simple pull of numbers no formulas
in the other workbook.
-A couple worksheets are 3-dimensional sums that roll-up the other
worksheets into a total.
-Error message from event viewer at the time of the APP failure is:

"The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Microsoft Office 11 )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see
Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event:
excel.exe, 11.0.8220.0, 482ca46f, excel.exe, 11.0.8220.0, 482ca46f, 0,
003c4663."
-It doesn't matter whether I insert one row into 5 selected tabs or 20 tabs
it fails either way.
-The recovery file is corrupt, the file it produces is like it made it
through the insert on a few worksheets and then where it failed the forumlas
for a few total lines are messed up.
-System is XP Pro, Office 2003, on a HP with a Pentium 2200 Dual Core and
3GB of memory.
-Also fails on a terminal server with Office 2007 and 32GB of memory. Same
error.
-Can copy row and insert copied row.
-CPU appears to be at about 51% while running the insert before it fails and
shuts down Excel.

I was able to insert rows in the past to this worksheet. This is a new
problem. Any help on what may be causing the problem would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you

I can't say I have the same problem, but mine is very similar. My sheet
closes when I add lines to any of three sheets, and try to SAVE the workbook.
Mine are VERY simple sheets with no formulas or copies from other worksheets.

I know this doesn't help but sometimes it's nice to know someone else is
having the same (or similar) problem.

I have the same problem in Excel 2007. I'm also working on a financial model
with which crashes 100% of the time when I attempt to insert row(s) on even a
single worksheet. I ran Office Diagnostics but it identified no issues.

--Have been using the model for a year; this is a new issue
--Can copy a row but crashes when I insert a copied row
--The workbook contains 44 worksheets.
--My workbook is not linked to any other workbook.
--The recovery file is always corrupt.
--File size is 6,877 kb
--Running Vista on HP/COMPAQ Presario C500 laptop using T2080 @ 1.73 Ghz & 2
Gb RAM

I designed an experiement to see if deleting some of the worksheets would
resolve the issue. I deleted 7 worksheets that I deemed "expendable" to the
workbook. After deleting the worksheets I was able to insert rows without
crashing. Does this indicate a capacity problem with Excel 2007? I don't know.
