Inserting Quicktime .mov: can hear, but can't see the movie

I have PP 2003 and have inserted a quicktime .mov into one of the slides. doing so places a black rectangle in the slide

When I do slideShow>>View Show, and click the black movie rectangle, I can hear the audio of the (sample.mov that comes with Windows), but can't see the video except for the last frame, the Quicktime logo

What is happening?
 
Is the QT MOV version 1, 2, or 2.5? Those are the only versions of QT PPT
will really play.
