Hi,

I have a database where I keep item available, and I added a picture so anyone
consulting it can see what the item is, some name aren't easy to figure.

In Access 2002 and 2000, when I added a new item I simply selected the insert
object and then choose the proper filename and it was done, but in 2003 when I
do this the only thing that I get is either the filename of the picture, or an
icon with the full pathname of said image.

I would like to know how I can insert a picture when I need to create a new
item, or even change it if the item appearence change

The most likely cause is that no suitable OLE Server application is available for the file type. What OLE
server was used previously ? (look at the image field in table view to see).

If it is MS Photo Editor, this application is no longer included in Office 2003. It may be possible to
install it from an earlier version of office. However, note that there can be significant drawbacks with
this approach to storing images, particularly with jpeg, that can include an overhead of up to 200 *times*
the original file size. More info is available here:

The image that were previously inserted and still be visible are "MsPhotoEd.3"
and the other is "Package".

What can I do to make it work.

BTW. I never install nor use MSPhotED.3, all I had before was Access, and
nothing else

Photo Editor must have been installed previously, perhaps by default in certain versions of Office/Access.
To continue using this approach you need to install this application again. Note that it is an optional
component of Office/Access in some versions, so you may need to select it specifically.

Since there is no default OLE server installed for the particular file-type, the default handler, 'Object
Packager', has created a 'package' for your new items. You will need to insert these again after installing
the relevant OLE Server.

Note that due to this, and other potential problems with the 'OLE Embedding' approach, we recommend that
you consider other techniques for working with images, such as raw-binary storage for 'embedded' images,
or external image files. See the link in my previous post for more info, or via sig below.

With my current version of Office 2003, I have Microsoft Office Picture Manager,
can I use this program as an OLE server, and in any case how can I install an
OLE server for pictures????

And since I don't Use Package, can I safely remove it from my sysmtem and then
preventing any further error like this ?

AFAIK Picture Manager does not function as a suitable OLE Server application.

I don’t know if it’s possible to remove the ‘Object Packager’, and it may well be inadvisable.

Ok, then how should I go about it, I need those picture in the database, and the
only format that been use is JPEG, from the digital camera
