inserting photos

I have created a spread sheet with the student demographics for our school.
I want to include the student photos. I have the photos in a folder. I
have a text file that matches student id numbers to photo names.
What is the best (is there a best) way to proceed?

you could try pulldown menu "Insert"/ "Picture"/ "From File" and
navigate to the folder which holds the photos.
 
Thanks, but I have 1400 records to go through. I'm looking for a more
global approach.

you could try pulldown menu "Insert"/ "Picture"/ "From File" and
navigate to the folder which holds the photos.
 
Do you want to actually insert 1400 photos into a worksheet or just be able
to call up a photo into your photo viewing application?

If the latter, get the full path of each picture into a column in a
worksheet and use the HYPERLINK function.

If the former, how large are the photos that you would want inserted?

Can you re-size to get them down to a manageable size?
