Inserting pdf files and Excel reports into Powerpoint

Can I easily create slides of pdf documents and Excel reports for
Powerpoint?

If not I may use action buttons instead which would be OK, except the files
always open as minimised windows instead of maximised ones - can I fix this?

Import PDF content into PowerPoint

For Excel, select the content you want in Excel, then press Ctrl+C to copy it.
Switch to PPT, choose Edit, Paste Special..., choose LINK in the Paste Special
dialog box, and go.

You can later ungroup/regroup to break the link if you like.
