Inserting narration changes timings

Using PPT 2002, I distribute files on CD with PPT Viewer 2003
I've done this several times in the past, but it never seems to make sense
to me
and it's slipped my mind.
When inserting sound files (narration, WAVs, linked) I like to have them start
at the beginning of the slide, while an animation goes on. The animation
has timings, e.g. "start after"
After inserting the narration file, everything starts after the narration
has finished.
In the past I've been able to work around this with a few clicks, but as I
said
the logic of the work around escapes me.
Anybody else run into this?

Your animation is waiting for the sound to complete because you have set it to
"start after previous". Set it to "start with previous". Add a delay if you
want.

There are a dozen animation steps following
so this would be very time consuming, almost as
time consuming as remembering this work around.
As I said, I've done it before with a few mouse clicks
but the procedure didn't seem to have much logic behind it.
Any help appreciated.

What if you put the sound on the previous slide, animated it as the last
effect and set it to play through however slides you need it to? It works
here, so I am thinking it would work for what you need....

I believe life is meant to be lived. But:
if we live without making a difference, it makes no difference that we lived

Thanks.
This works as described, and I can see were I'll use it in the future.
Nevertheless, it doesn't work in this particular case (sorry to add a new
condition) because I want to have a pause command, triggered by clicking the
speaker icon (so the user can turn off the narration if he/she wants to).
Maybe they could just take off the d--d earphones!

Have you ever read about the expiriment where they take the chicken
and condition it to peck a board, by giving it food every time it pecks the
board.
The chichen will keep on pecking for a time, even after they quit providing
the food.

The same expiriment is done by providing the food only sometimes when the
chicken pecks. When the food is taken away permanently, this chicken also
keeps
on pecking, but for an even longer period than the 1st chicken does.

I feel like the 2nd damned chicken.
I guess I'll just keep on pecking for a while.
