inserting music into presentation

I am putting together a memorial slide show for my father-in-law. I have put the show together but now I am trying to add some of his favorite songs to go with the show. I have a list of songs but how do I get the music to play while the pictures are showing? I have only been able to have a song play for each slide but I wanting the music to keep playing while each slide shows for 5 seconds. I appreciate any help I can get.
