Inserting Hyperlink into MSWord 2000

I would like to use a shell/bat program which will create
a document with extension .doc Inside this document I
would like insert at the time of document creation a
hyperlink which point to a file in another server. Every
time I create a document the hyperlink is not recognized
as a hyperlink, rather just text. Would like to know
whether I need to insert a esc command so that Word sees
the text as a hyperlink?

You need to insert a field. This is not easy to do with plain text.
