The only way you're going to know is by testing them out. Try inserting
the images using the "create new" option instead of "create from file".
This way, you can specify the program you want associated with the picture.
I use PhotoShop for this on my machine and it works fine. Microsoft Photo
Editor ships with some versions of office and it works even better for this
purpose.
Changing the machine's default file association can be a little trickier,
especially with newer versions of Windows. If you have Photo Editor, that
program should set up itself as the machine's default when its installed and
is usually the easiest way to go. Many times, however, I've had to hack the
file association settings in the HKLM section of the registry to get it
working the way I want.
