Inserting Art Into A Slide

I have two pieces of art that I have inserted into a PowerPoint slide. I have
added a textured pattern background to the slide, but both pieces of art have
white backgrounds. I want the background to show through so that the logo and
the other piece of art appear as part of the whole. How can I get the white
background to fade? To go away?
 
Depending on the type of art file you inserted, you can use PowerPoint's
transparency tool found on the Picture tool bar (View > Toolbars > Picture,
or just click on the picture and toolbar should appear).
