Hello--

We have a client that is running IE6 on Windows XP SP2 and no matter what
hyperlink she has in an email or Word body, when it is clicked on, it only
opens her home page. Here are the steps I've taken to try to resolve or even
identify the problem.

1) Reinstalled IE6
2) Did a system file 'scan' (sfc /scannow)
3) Installed the most recent IE6 security updates
4) Changed her home page

We do not employ an ISA or proxy server.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Razor,

File Explorer>Tools>Folder Options, File types tab, find Internet Shortcut
and examine the Open command. It sounds like they are missing the %1
parameter placeholder.

Regards.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

I will take a look at that.

Thank you,

sd

I'll try this as well. I wonder how her configuration could have gotten
changed?? It actually used to work.

Thanks,

She has perhaps set another browser as the default. The Avant browser has a
small bug in that when it is uninstalled it does not fully clean up after
itself and leaves behind its file associations for Internet Shortcuts.

Regards.

I see. That might be it. She is still out of the office so I have not been
able to apply the help given here yet.
