I appear to have messed up some files when i tried to install some codecs.
Now when i try to restore my system files I get a message telling me to
Insert my Windows XP Professional CD-ROM which I do and it says it is the
wrong disk. I hit cancel and then it says it needs to copy files from
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 CD which i don't have. I hit Cancel
and then it then asks for Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD.

Help...

Try switching to diffrent cd player, try the cdrw if one exists.
Otherwise,let it continue running,select try again,if you have a lit-on
cdrom type, youll see xp is active useing the xp cd,extracting files.

I can't switch cdroms - I only have the one. Try again does nothing.

Can I download the sp-1 and sp-2 disks from somewhere?

All I have is my original xp pro cd.
