I am using Office Pro 2003. The 1st time I insert/object/Microsoft Word
document it works fine. Subsequesnt times I get an error "The server
Application, source file, or item cannot be found, or returned an unknown
error. You may need to reinstall the server application."

This only happens with Word. I can insert Excel or any other object.

I tried to reinstall on top of the current installation but this did not fx
it. I cannot find any documents about this.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated

I do not see any reference to Office 2003. Do you know that this is also
the issue with that version? We are also using Norton 2005. I will have
the user give it a shot.

The stuff here will probably help with embedded Word objects as well. I
suspect your antivirus's office plug-in.

Yes, I believe it is still an issue, even with Office 2003 and Norton 2005,
although I'm not positive. Please post back if this resolves the issue for
your user so we can update the FAQ. Thanks.

It appears to work now for new presentations that he now creates. Great!!
Why would old presentations still have the problem? That makes no sense to
me.

I just got this from the user.
"And then opened new PowerPoint file and tried to import the word document.
It worked once and then when I tried to get into the document to edit, I got
the error message. I checked and office plug in is still disabled."

Any other ideas?

Hm. I would have him do this, then:

Use Windows Explorer to search for: officeav.dll
If you find it, click Start, click Run and type this, quote marks and all:

regsvr32 /u "\officeav.dll"
That should *really* disable the Norton AV Office Plug-In.-- Echo [MS PPT

No go. 1st it would not allow me to unregister. I renamed the file,
rebooted and still no go. Same problem, 1st try allows to add the Word
object. Second attempt and subsequent attempts fail.

Well, nuts.

I think I'd contact Symantec (Norton) at this point.
