FP2003 won't let me insert a word file. It keeps telling me I need a
converter. I insert all the install disks and it still won't load a
converter. Does anyone know where this "converter" file is? pub.msi?

Try making a link to the file - don't insert it.
or
Convert (File > Save As > HTML) the word file to HTML then insert that in
your FP web, although the results are un predictable - Word produces messy
HTML code, and you lose your formatting etc.

By insert word file what do you mean?

1. You want the content of the word.doc in the web page?
Try a copy then paste into notepad (to remove the word formatting) then
copy from notepad and paste into the web page. Reformat in FrontPage as
needed. (The best way)

2. You want to make the file a web page?
Open the word file and save it as a web page. This is not recommended
but can be done. Expect mixed results.

3. You want to link to the file so that it will open in word when clicked
on?
Import the file into FrontPage then with your cursor where you want the
link just drag the file from the "Folder List" and drop it on the page. Are
you sure that the other person has word?

Perplexed as to what you are trying to do.

John,

Frontpage 2003 is suppose to be able to read all word files. However when I
try and insert the file into FP I get a message that I need to install a
converter file. The converter file is located on the original disk for MS
publisher 2002 and is called "pub.msi". However, the disk that came with my
Dell computer has on ir "pubret.msi". The computer dosen't like this other
MSI file and won't let me istall the converter. Because of this I can't
insert a word file into FP.

I can cut and paste but that is very labor intensive when I should be able
to insert.

Try just clicking NO when it asks to install the converter and see what
happens.

The text converter files on your computer are in.........
\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Textconv folder.
As if that helps....

You could do a re-install of publisher (you are right about it being in
Publisher that is the disk it wants here too)
And make sure you select "All " of the converters.

But when I click "NO" (when asked to install) It converts the file any way..
Go figure!
(starting to wake up from the deep sleep)
