How can I insert a WMV movie into PowerPoint 2000?
Yes, I have Windows Media Player 9.
No, I would rather not insert it as an Object.
Thank you!

Thank you very much for your reply. I may have failed to
completly define my problem.
I have no problem inserting .wmv movies into PowerPoint
2002.
I have no problem inserting .mpg movies into PowerPoint
2000.
However, I am not able to insert .wmv movies into
PowerPoint 2000. Please let me know if there is a method.

Can you further describe the problem then, because I answered your question
as best I could. You asked how to insert a WMV and I said Insert > Movies
and Sounds > Movie from File. If that doesn't work for you, what happens?
What message do you get? Etc.?

When trying to insert a WMV file into PowerPoint 2000,
the following message appears: "PowerPoint couldn't
insert a movie from the selected file. Either the file
is non-standard or Quicktime is not installed properly"

Today I verified that the same message appeared on three
different computers. Each of the computers was operating
with Windows 2000, PowerPoint 2000 and Windows Media
Player 9.0.

My first suspicion is that the installation of Real One or another player
might have modified the MCI settings on the system.

PowerPoint doesn't use the Windows Media Player. Instead it uses Window's
MCI player. On Windows 2000 and XP systems the player is called
mplay32.exe. You can test the WMV file by going to Start > Run and typing
mplay32.exe and clicking OK. Then open the WMV file and click on the play
icon. It probably won't run. The reason it doesn't run is the mystery that
has to be solved.

The first step toward diagnosis and correction would be to visit
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm and read it
all with special attention to section 3. At the end of that section are two
lists of what the MCI settings should equal in the Registry of Win 2000 and
XP systems. Check your Registry against those lists and edit to make them
match. Then test the file again.

Please let us know if that doesn't help.

I will give this a try tomorrow when I am wide awake.
Before I do... Please assure me that you are actually
able to successfully insert WMV video into PowerPoint
2000 running with Windows 2000. If you verify that you
can do this, I will have new motivation.
Thanks for your help!

Yes, WMV video will insert and play in PPT 2000 on Windows 2000. I have
that setup at work, and I've done this a number of times.

I've even inserted a WMV of my PowerPoint presentation into another
presentation. LOL!
