when I insert a video clip into a presentation I get a
dialog box with cannot show because 'vids:mjpg'
decompressor is not available. What is this and can I
download this decompressor from the web? Thanks! Jay K

It means that a codec is required to decompress the video, but your system
doesn't have it installed. There is a tutorial at
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm that
explains the whole thing.

What is the source of the video? That might help us figure out which codec
is needed.

Thanks! The source of the video is a clip from a Cannon
digital camera (only 15 secs). The file extn is .AVI and
WMP-9 plays it fine, but I can't make PP play it,
apparently because the system doesn't have this vids:mjpg
decompressor. Meanwhile, I've read your tutorial and
found it very informative, great job! I'm seriously
considering downloading the codec from the nimo pack. Do
you know the correct codec I should d-load? Could I
choose just one codec? I'm using XP-Pro(SP1) and PP-2002.
Thanks again!
Jay

Try TAJ's suggestion first. If that doesn't work then go to
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ and get their free tool. It will tell you
specifically which codec you need.

The Nimo pack lets you pick which ones you want to install. I would start
with the "basic" set.

Jay,

Thanks for reporting back. I was gobsmacked when I first found it out....no
messing with codecs!

It's so simple.

That stat's still stay at 99% though.

Cheers
TAJ
