Insert scanned images in Word 2003 on Windows XP SP2

Hi,
I am trying to insert some scanned images (scanned using a TWAIN driver) in
a Word 2003. The operation completes successfully with 100% probability on
Windows XP1. However if the same process is repeated on Windows XP SP2, most
of the time (probability is more than 80%), it fails to insert the image.
There seems to be no visible departure from the normal behaviour, except for
the final result.

If anyone can help in this regard, it will be great.

What "process" are you following?
Can you/Are you scanning in the pictures, saving them as files, opening your
Word document, inserting the file/picture from the Insert menu?

I just tried to insert a scanned image using Word's inbuilt facility.. this
is what happened..

Using the Insert button that appears, the first time that I tried it, I
forgot to place anything in the scanner.. it produced a big black image in
Word..

Realising my mistake, I placed a document into the scanner, and tried
again.. after the scanning action ended, it threw up an error message..

I then tried to scan the document using Words 'custom insert' button, and it
completed the task without any difficulty..

OK.. I have had two successes if you can count the blank image because it
completed without difficulty, and one failure..

The failure was a full page, letter size document.. so I got to thinking
that maybe Word thought that the image coming from the scanner was just too
big to fit the page..

I placed two full colour calling cards in the scanner, and tried again..
this time, Word completed the task without difficulty..

This raises a few questions.. the function obviously works as long as the
image/document being scanned can be placed into a blank Word page without
impinging the set margins..

Perhaps you might like to continue the testing that I have started here..

In view of what I have discovered, I don't think that you should be making
any major changes to settings, or doing repair installs of the OS or MS
Office just yet..

The obvious work around for you if you have something specific to scan into
a Word document is to use the scanner program to create an image which you
then insert into Word as an imported picture..

The process followed is quite simple and is described below:
1. We have done a scan to Twain on the MFP (multi function peripheral). As a
result the scanned image is stored on the MFP only.
2. We open MS word, do a Inset->Picture->From Scanner or Camera
3. Select the Twain supported scanner listed and do a Custom Insert.
4. Thereafter we select the available MFP and try to acquire the image.

The process succeeds with very low probability. Most of the time it fails to
acquire the image.

The same process when repeated on Windows XP SP1 works fine.

Thanks for the information. However, I am looking from a different
perspective. I am not trying to insert a image/file scaaned using "Scan to
File" option.
I am using a MFP and the image is scanned using "Scan to Twain" option.
Hence the image I am trying to insert is there on MFP and not on local
machine.
Pl note that the image size is well smaller than the document page size.
