I am trying to "embed" a video file into a web page. First, I followed the
directions using Insert > Picture > Video. The only result is a 15 pixe x 15
pixel (app) image of a "no picture available" icon.

I can do a hyperlink direct to the video once I've imported it into the web.
But I want the video to play on a mouse-over.

I did the Insert > Web Component > Advanced Controls > Plug-in, but when I
do that, the video play on page load. If there were a way to stop the video
from playing on page load and wait for a click on the play button, that would
be excellent.

My sense is that I don't have a check-box checked somewhere in a properties
box, but I can't seem to find it.

Any help?
Thanks!

Easiest way is to use the Widows Media player add-in for FrontPage
http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/downloads/addin/searchdetail.asp?a=632

Once you've installed it run it from Insert | Web Component | Additional
Components to insert your video. Once the Windows Media Player is embedded
in the page with your video, right click and select FrontPage Component
Properties and remove the checkmark from the "Auto Start" box. That won't
cause it to start on mouseover, it will take a click to start it.

Cheryl: Thanks for your quick reply. I did as you instructed (installed the
add-in, etc.), but ran into a small problem when I tried to embed an .avi
file. I told the Web Component to convert to wmf . . . said I didn't have
the right WMP to do that.

So I went back and tried again, this time NOT converting the file. Worked
just as you said.

I also figured out that I could use Insert > Web Component > Advanced
Controls > ActiveX Control > Windows Media Player. I don't, however, know
what this will do with security measures.

Your answer was through enough to get me what I needed, though.

Thanks again!

well, isn't the ActiveX control the actual plugin Cheryl was talking about?
or is this something different?

Andrew:

Prior to installing the plug-in Cheryl suggested, I did not have an
"Additional Components" in my Insert > Web Components list.

Now that choice is available and the only option in that list is the Windows
Media Player. The wizard is also a bit different.

It is a bit different and has more options than the Active X component that
ships with FP 2003. Overall it is a bit easier to use.

Cheryl;

You seem very helpful on this video matter. I tried to follow the steps you
outlined and it appears my software, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to
give me the results you achieved. When I download the component add-in and
install it, I go to FrontPage 2003, I attempt to insert the video
(mediaplayer add-in) component and it only shows a 'Visual InterDev
Navigation Bar' component and not this MediaPlayer you speak of. What am I
missing? I went and downloaded the MediaPlayer 9 Encoder to see if that
would make a difference and it did not. Could you please give me some
direction on what to try next?

Kindest Regards,

D. Wood
