Greetings all.
Windows xp, PP 97

I have a user that is trying to insert a PDF as an object. On my
machine, I follow these steps:

Insert, Object, From File
Browse for the PDF and Insert

Works fine. Of course, on his machine, it does not insert the object,
it inserts the filename. I cannot see any differences in his settings
vs. mine.

Ideas?

Do you have Acrobat installed but he doesn't?

Steve,

We both have Adobe Reader 7.0 and Cute PDF Writer installed.

Do you both have the same version of Reader? The first release or two were
buggy. See if updating helps.

But I don't think Reader is an "OLE server", meaning it doesn't serve up
"objects" you can insert in presentations. What exactly does the list box say
in the Insert Object dialog when you insert one of these things?

It is not just reader. The same thing happens if the user tries to
insert a word doc, spreadsheet, etc. as an object.

Have the user start up WordPad and try inserting objects into it.
That'll tell us whether it's PPT or something at a deeper level that's messed
up.
