Insert Menu

Hi all, I'm a new member but need help terribly--in the middle of
dissertation work and the symbol option under "insert" disappeared. it
actually did so after i clicked on it when my mouse arrow looked like a long
black hypen. i'm not a techy but still a consistent user so could follow
help/support.

So what word processing package are you actually using?

Windows XP Professional 2002 is your operating system. What word
processor are you using, Microsoft Word? Microsoft Office Word XP?
Microsoft Office Word 2003? Microsoft Works? WordPerfect? OpenOffice?

If you are using MS Word go to Tools, then Customize, at the Commands
Tab select Insert in the left hand window then, in the right hand
window scroll down to Symbol, highlight it then holding down the left
button on the mouse drag "Symbol" up to the Insert Menu, when it opens
release the left button so as to drop the command at the position you
want it placed.
 
If your using Microsft Word, click on Insert and then click on the chevron
looking arrow at the bottom of the menu. MS Word hides some menu choices
that you have not used in a while.

No, that's an operating system. Please don't mix up operating systems and
application software. Gordon asked what word processing program you're
using. Possible answers are things like WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, and so
on. Nobody can help you unless they know the answer to that question.
