How do I insert a manual hard space keeping text together within a line
and/or sentence without using a hyphen? For example: 1 hour, 2 tsp.

contrl+Shift+Space does not work on my version of Word 2007. What is the
manual way of doing this...? I read online that the same can be done by
hittng instert, then formatting mark, then non-breaking space, but I can't
find "formatting mark" on word 2007

Insert > Symbol > More symbols > Special Characters > Non breaking space.
A more pertinent question might be *why* doesn't CTRL+SHIFT+Space work?

Maybe by "formatting mark" someone meant the capital Omega on the
Insert Symbol button?

Does Ctrl-Shift-Space do something _other than_ insert a non-breaking
space?

Insert, Symbol, More Symbols, special characters, and select Nonbreaking
space. You can also set up a shortcut key if you regularly use it.

HOw about "search and replace"

Hello everyone.

Can this also be automated as "Search and replace".

Using ctrl shift space produces a hard space.

Now, if I want to replace any given word string from normal (or no) space to hard space, how do I do that?

As a related example, creating brackets around all automatic endnotes, I can do by "search for specific layout marks", "endnotes" and replace all "" with "[&]", where & stands in for the number of the endnote, but must not be entered in the search space.

How about the code for "hard space"? If I enter ctrl shift space in the search (or search and replace) option, nothing happens.

Thanks!

Use Caret ^s

Found the answer.
the code in search and replace is the caret/carat^s

e.g.
replace
I wrote this
