Not at all.

What folders are where? What content were you expecting to see? What does
"tried to install" mean? Did you install IIS? What did you do?

How did you install it? I had done it many times like this:

1. Launch "Add/Remove Programs" applet in Control Panel
2. Click on "Add/Remove Windows Components" on the left side.
3. Select "Internet Information Server IIS" (Go deep if you want FTP
etc.).
4. Setup may want you to insert the XP setup CD.

After the installation is over, you should see localstart.asp script
file in c:\inetpub\wwwroot on the disk.

Thank you for the responses.
I Installed the IIS from the CD, all the folders are there but there are no
files in the folders. There is no index page.

I am unable to install the SMTP as an error message comes up (0x75).
I unchecked Games, Frontpage Extn and SMTP...and the IIS server was
installed ok. I've managed to install the other componets, apart from the
SMTP.

Hope to hear more. Thanks
