Have anyone managed to install the 0.41 version properly
on windows (i have only mandrake 9.1 installed so i can't
test it on linux now), and can you write text ?
When i launch it i get an warning message about missing
extensions (the error log shows missing perl.bin so no text extension),
And when i try to type some text in a new document,
i get a warning message about ressources to low, and
then every thing freezes. There is very few docs avalaibles,
anyway it's "pre" release. Maybe it's a bug ?

That's allright, it's normal. Just disable the warning and stop worrying
:-) For your information, I downloaded the current windows build today
and it doesn't show the warning.

But as I said, it doesn't do any harm, nor limit Inkscape's
functionality.

That's strange, creating a new document and typing some text functions
normally over here. That's Inkscape build 050208, running on Win2K.

You might want to try the latest Windows build to see if it behaves
differently, or ask this on the Inkscape User's mailing list. The
developers are quite responsive and will probably help you further.

Windows CVS builds are available at:
http://inkscape.org/win32-snap/

Mailing list information is at:

Thanks a lot, i have downloaded the latest daily Zip, so no install,
but same story. On win ME, maybe it's the OS.

I've been running Inkscape on Win 98se no problem, but using builds by
"Bob Jamison" from here:
<http://troi.hous.es3.titan.com/inkscape/builds/>

The build I installed from this link is named "inkscape-0.39-
1.win32.zip". Newer ones start at the top of the list, I haven't tried
any more recent builds, guess I'll get around to it one day. Have been
happy enough with my last install.

Okay, i tried Inkscape0502031142 on 2 computers, 1 i have
stressed a little by removing unused dll, etc... but the other one
is a fresh install : I can crash boths, by "flooding" them with
text : my stressed PC crashs very soonly, the other one
accept more characters (10 lines..) but the fatal error occurs
when i saved the document... I suscribed to the sourceforge's
forum

I guess me writing - I don't have problems running Inkscape on Win 98se
using build "inkscape-0.39-1.win32.zip" had little influence on your
decision not to try this at all, eh?

What I am saying is: Try build "inkscape-0.39-1.win32.zip" as found at
the URL I originally posted.

Why? Because that build is what works for me and runs on Win 98se,
therefore IMHO there is a good chance that it will run without issue on
your ME box too.

Good luck and good night.

Then I am sorry too, that I could not help your situation.
