Inkjets with internal fonts?

I'm trying to acquire an inexpensive printer that will work with both
my new PC's and my old 8-bit computers that output only ASCII. The
priorities are that it accept the Centronics interface, and support
standard Epson internal fonts (LX/LQ emulation mode).

The droids at modern office and computer stores scratch their heads
when asked about font emulation. (One knowedgeable salesman told me
I'd have to spring for a dot-matrix or Laser before I'd see printer
fonts...)

So, are there any inkjets that do standard Epson LX/LQ font emulation,
or will I have to forsake the idea of a common inkjet for my PC and my
C-64?

TIA for any answers!

You can find some Epson inkjet printers for esc/p2 font emulation.

The economics of making a modern inkjet support old 8 bit comuters
doesn't seem to be there.

There isn't a way to make much money from people who want to use both
very old and new technologies on the same periphial, and also want to be
cheap.

IF one can't make much money.... perhaps they won't make such products.

The very old HP THINKJET might have had such capability, but that was a
long time ago.

Say hello to the "droids" for me.

Not only 8-bit... I still use many DOS apps and many won't print
correctly through Windoze, if they work at all in a window.

Most people just buy a new WINTel or Mac with the latest software
suite and hope drivers exist for their (also new) printer. If not,
it's time to either upgrade the OS or the printer. The days of
universal ability to pump straight ASCII with escape codes to a
printer are over.

I guess I'll just buy a laserjet. They run on ASCII and are more
economical in the long run, since I rarely use colour.

Many thanks.

My old Citizen Projet II worked fine in DOS.

There are inkjet which work on DOS. I don't know models, but I'm sure there
ARE. E.g. I think that HP 3820 was a such model (it was sold a few months
ago, you could find it as second hand now).
