I assume that color inkjets can print on transparencies, the kind used for
overhead projectors in classrooms, but are the dyes opaque or does the color
show through?

Most printers handle transparencies fine. See if there is a 'paper type' for
a transparent sheet, if not try anyway and see how it turns out.

The colors shows through. I've used Avery inkjet transparencies for some
projects and it worked fine. They're pricey though...
