I understand there is a new type of inkjet printer that uses a new type of
ink referred to as "Gel". Has anyone had any experience with this type of
printer? What are the pluses & minuses? Would you recommend it?

Thanks in advance... Bob

Here is an explanation for those not familiar.
******************************
Ricoh has introduced a range of desktop printers using a gel-based
colour system instead of the familiar inkjet technology. This allows
the devices to print at up to 30 pages-per-minute, according to the
firm, and makes them an economical alternative to inkjets.

I guess we'll need something like a grease gun to refill the cartridges
with non-oem ink!
