I have just bought a new inkjet cartridge.

I note that it has sticky take over the printhead. I have always assumed
that this was a bad idea (glue blocking jets). But it occurs that perhaps
the sticky tape actually clears the jets by withdrawing material that
blocks the jets. I am wondering if stick tape might be a good way of
unblocking clogged jets. If you disagrre, what do you think the sticky
tape is for?

The tape is there to seal the jets and contacts from the air. It's not
just any old tape but formulated for the job

But it is gummed tape. It may stop the air (but why is this an advatage).
Could not some of the gume black the jets. Does removing the tape help to
remove deposits
 
I think with time and at higher temps the glue from the tape could be sucked
into the print head.Would be the best explanation for several DJ5xx cartridges
making stripes right out of the box over the years here.
For cleaning purposes the best tape is that double-sided one used for taping
carpets to the floor(could rip the stripe with the traces off the
cartridge,though)
