For some strange reason, all the shortcut on my desktop
are followed by a .ink extention, and I cannot access
system restore, regedit, any of my programs, can't get
online, basically cannot do anything. Is this a virus, or
a problem with the registery?

those are "link" icons with a small arrow in corner of
the icon. these are used to link to where your shortcut
is.
