Pete

I realise it's not possible to give an accurate answer to my question, but a
very rough guide will do

Can anyone give me some info on ink usage from a HP B9180?

I want to print out 60 A4 size colour wedding photos. Do you think the
cartridges that came with the printer will suffice, or am I likely to need
more? The printer uses 8 ink cartridges, but I can't find any info on how
much ink they hold

Thanks

Pete

They hold 27ml.
According to HP the B9180 will print approximately 85 A3+ photo prints
per 8 cartridge averaged total, so 60 x A4 is about 1/3 of a set. Of
course I expect that HP wouldn't understate coverage, so take that
figure with a grain of salt. If the bride's wearing white - maybe
you'll get more :-)

No - you probably won't make it on the original set. Some colours get
used much faster than others - the totals above are averaged.
Also, about 1/3 of the original inks will be used up in initial charging
and calibration.

Don't run out of ink - the printer uses a little ink all the time to
keep the nozzles clean, and should normally be left switched on.
Switching it off, or leaving it on with empty tanks for more than a
short time, and you will probably have problems. The heads can be
removed for cleaning - and of course user-replaced (at a cost) if they
fail completely.

Thanks very much for you detailed reply Frederick

Very useful info

I'd better order some carts then!

See http://www.hp.com/pageyield/us/en/PSPB9180/photo.html and
http://www.hp.com/pageyield/us/en/PSPB9180/summary.html. Probably the only
extra ink you would need to have on hand would be the light gray, which is
used the fastest, but even that will probably get the 60 prints with the
original cartridge.
