Ink Question re: Red

I have an HP 895cxi
After printing 15 to 20 sheets of color (maybe less) the reds become
very pink. If I put in a new color
cartridge the reds are red again.
What color is diminished that leads to pink? Yellow?
Is this common? Does yellow (or whatever) dry up quicker or is it just
used more percentage wise in
printing colors?
I think is 15 to 20 sheets is an unacceptable small lifetime....and I
try to use draft or normal, not higher,
printing modes to conserve ink.
TIA

In my experience, yellow ink does tend to run out first. It has to do with
the way reds and greens are created, and the fact that they are so common in
pictures.

Also, yellow is a tough color for coverage (as anyone who's painted a room
yellow can tell you).

Red is a combination of Magenta (pinkish purple) and Yellow ink. If
Yellow is gone, you're left with just the Magenta, which sounds like your
problem, although, you should see other colors missing as well (greens
will appear blueish). In my experience Yellow is one of the first to run
out if you are printing photos. Magenta is next most likely to go.
