Tony,
Can you still use Epson's paper profiles that come with the R800 when
switching to your inks?
Thanks

So far so good - no complaints: bear in mind the R800 is somewhat specialist
and I fancy most of my users tend to tweak things a bit and don't always say
how or why. It appears that B/W is the best they have seen. With some
independent tests I undertook some 9 months ago the gamut was pretty darned
accurate with small discrepancies across the whole range. This was by a
Photo group, with the Lightfast inks which were considered equivalent to
Durabrite inks.

I can reccomend Jettec (at least for 950 and 600).
I had a minor problem with some faulty cartridges in 950, but this was
resolved by two replacements for each faulty cartridge, on next day
delivery. Fantastic prints! I can't see any difference to genuine epson
other than price.

Sorry, but I'm going back to the bottom of the class.

I've lost colours again. I believe I have found the reason. When removing
the anti-contamination tab there is a hole in the top of the cartridge. I
believe this allows the ink to run out of the cartridge while the printhead
is parked, so you end up with an empty cartridge in a short space of time,
but the status monitor reports that the cartridge is still partially full.

I have now dumped my jettec cartridges (new sealed ones as well) and gone
back to original epson cartridges. They may cost twice as much but they
don't give me any trouble at all.

Mike , if you come out with unfounded garbage like that you'll be expelled
from this school as unteachable, or at least reluctant to learn. Namely your
reasoning conflicts head on with the experience of tens of thousands of
users Worldwide.
The, in your words "anti-contamination tab", is a safety tab placed exactly
there to preclude innocent users trying to insert the cartridge wrong way
to: or in reverse. The tiny hole is the necessary breather hole - ink goes
out, and air comes in. It is impossible to drain a cartridge with your model
as the ink is sucked. If the seating is badly aligned ( a common Epson
malady) the ink may dry on the heads. The 810/830 series often requires a
smart shove to the right to get it to park correctly.
If your printer is still under warranty - then it is time to call them in.
But , if you buy that hogwash - then yes Epson cartridges are definately
best. And Ford petrol (gas) works better in Ford cars. Sadly Rolls Royce
don't market petrol so the cars don't run. And unipart filters are
definately Naff.

Results speak for themselves.

Insert new Epson cartridges and everything is perfect.

The Jettec cartridges were definitely not empty when installed, but were
empty shortly afterwards despite the status monitor claiming that they were
up to 70% full. Maybe it is nothing to do with the hole after tab removal,
but I don't see where else the ink is going. The two Cyan cartridges gave me
no trouble at all, and the difference between these two cartridges and the
others is that the tab snapped off them leaving the hole blocked. I even
used the 30% extra on these two cartridges.

I never had any problems with genuine Epson, other than cost. The Jettec
cartridges give great results when they work, but unfortunately, they have
messed me about once too often. The money saved on Ink was lost on
misprinted media.

If I get the same problems with the Genuine Epson cartridges then I will
report back, but I expect that I will have the same reliability that I had
before switching to Jettec in an attempt to save a little money.

I don't wish to suggest what brands work best, because as I have stated
before, price has little relevance to cartridge or ink quality.

I will, however, agree with Tony that the 810/830 printer had some
manufacturing problems which did leave many of them vulnerable to the
head not parking fully at the head cleaning station, allowing them to
dry out, and indeed giving them an extra push right on shut down can
help to park the heads better.

I will also mention that some inks dry more quickly than others, due to
the amount of glycols in them. Although I know that the 810/830 printer
models suffer from more clogging than most, an ink with a higher glycol
content might prove less likely to clog.

Just to update:

Everythings still fine with genuine Epson cartridges.

Just had a response from Jettec stating that when the tab is removed the pin
part of it should stay in the hole. If the pin pulls out then the hole
should be blocked with tape to stop the cartridge from leaking.
