On two of my systems since installing SP-2, I can still hit delete on startup
and enter the setup program. Onthe other system this is not working can it be
enabled. If so how.
Thanks

The setup program? Do you mean the setup/configuration screens for BIOS? If
yes, the other machine may need a different key pressed. Consult the system
manual or the online documentation.

If you are certain that Del is the correct key for the non-working system,
what kind of keyboard is being used? If USB, try a different USB port or
try with a PS/2 keyboard. Once you get into the setup screens, look for a
"Legacy USB" section. This section may be a universal enable/disable -
enable it. Or it may list specific hardware items. Enable the option that
specifically mentions keyboard.

BTW, installing SP2 is not related to this. At the point of startup that
you're describing, Windows has not started to load.

Hi Sharon. Thanks for fast reply. I assume that DEL is the correct as this is
an HP system that was on Win 98 untill i upgraded to XP and then SP-2. And
DEL was the way to get in. When you hit the DEL key on startup info screen.
That does not appear now, it goes straight to the XP startup screen. The
keyboard is PS-2. I guess what I need is the Startup info screen to appear
that is what is missing.

So then we are talking about the BIOS screens or something else? If it used
to be the DEL key, it still is. My old HP used F10 but it can vary from
model to model.

If you have an HP splash screen where the info screen used to be, press the
key while it's up. On most HP's (most systems with splash screens for that
matter), you can press the ESC key to remove the splash screen for that
startup. In BIOS setup, there is often a setting for turning the splash
screen on and off. When you finally get in, you could turn this off if you
prefer to see the POST screen.

Hi everyone,
This is embarrasing. I assumed that delete was the correct key from my
experience with HP. I started and went through all the keys. Some how I
missed hitting the F1 key, and this was the one that let me in. Thanks to all
of you for your patience with me. Everything now okay.

No problem. Completely understand. Sometimes I go on "auto-pilot mode" and
end up in similar situations.
