Ed.

Hello there,
We're contemplating infrgistics user interface controls. I'm wondering if
anyone has used them , esp the 2009 versions and general opinion. I've
looked about online and they look pretty decent and i've seen some reviews
but you never know how objective the reviewer is.

Thanks - Ed.

I've used their controls. They are nice but documentation is limited and
not as complete as Microsoft documentation. One nice thing is Infragistics
has online help forums and if you are a subscriber, you can post questions
to their technical staff and they will respond within one day.

Hope this helps.

Hello Ed,

In the company I work for we are using Infragistics NetAdvantage
controls in some of our projects.

It is my personal opinion that they allow you to configure a lot.
However, I find it to be much - it's a bit difficult to understand which
setting will lead to which result in the end.

We also found that having two different versions of NetAdvantage
(2008-v3 and 2009-v1 in particular) installed on the same machine will
result in compilation errors due to licensing problems. So old projects
with NetAdvantage would need to be upgraded to the latest version.
I've looked about online and they look pretty decent and i've seen some
reviews but you never know how objective the reviewer is.

You also don't know how objective I am... ;)

Best regards,

Martin

I have used and/or reviewed many controls. I like hte Infragistic
controls, although I do agree with Alan that the documentation is a bit
lacking. There are some good samples, however. And the forums are there
when you get stuck. To put it in context, if you have ever tried
mapping, the documentation is worse than Google, but better than
MapQuest. ;-)

Others I have tried:

* Telerik
* Synfusion
* ComponentOne
* DevExpress

Each has its strengths and weaknesses. One thing I dislike in some of
the menu controls is you have to use proprietary XML files rather than
SiteMap. I am not fond of reinventing the wheel.Infragistics was not a
problem child in this respect. NOTE: This is ASP.NET.

DevExpress' big strength, if you use it, is there framework for layout.
Telerik tends to be very leading, if not bleeding edge, with Syncfusion
in the same family. But pretty much all of them are getting to the same
bleeding edge status with controls, as the competition heats up.

I have not tried ComponentArt, as I have not had a NFR copy to play with
yet.

It really depends on what you would like to accomplish as to which suite
is best for you.

Peace and Grace,
