Yes. That is why the processor is in a socket.
If you wish more information, on exactly *what* processors are
viable alternatives, tell us the motherboard you are using.
Give us some hardware details we can work with.
If the computer is a Dell, HP, Gateway etc, a pre-built machine,
some of them have limits due to heating. For example, a certain
HP multimedia center, is limited to using lower power processors,
because it would overheat. It is a lot harder for us to estimate
what will work in those cases. Sometimes a Dell or HP web page
will indicate viable upgrades, but mostly they are silent on the
matter.
