is WMDC the direct replacement for activesync?

various installers (pda games), software (POIedit for tomtom satnav),
and im sure other programs have been built around the activesync
software. now activesync isnt on vista and has been replaced with WMDC,
is software designed for Activesync also compatible with WMDC?

1) Yes

2) Have not yet had an issue with installers that rely on ActiveSync--WMDC
intercepts and performs the same functions. The installer files are then
located in \Windows\Windows Mobile in their respective sub-folders, and any
Add/Remove functions are through Control Panel/Programs and Features

I have some Microsoft applications that will not install saying they cannot
find active sync.

I also almost killed a Dell AXIM trying to do a ROM update with WMDC. It got
through the hard reset killing the entire contents of the device but it
would no complete the ROM update. I was able to salvage the system by going
to a Windows XP and doing the ROM update there. The feedback I go from
Microsoft was they changed the way ROM updates were done so most existing
ROM update will fail under VISTA. There is a newer ROM update program, but
Vendors are not going to have much incentive to rewrite their applications
to be compatible with VISTA.

I also have a HP6925 and it syncs fine every time on a XP Pro with Active
Sync. It fails to be recognized about 95% of the tries with VISTA. I often
have to go into the Active Sync mode and toggle to RNDIS and then back to
USB Serial Sync Mode to get it connected.
