I have a few reasons to convert to NTFS, including the need to install a
large HD, more efficient use of disc space (the vast majority of my files
are 2 to 3K jpgs), security from small nosy fingers.
I have seen statements that the process is very simple, using the tools
built in to XP Home.
I have found info on MS site, aimed at manufacturers, to the effect that
users will not know the subtleties required to get the most efficient
set-up.

Please point me at the sources of the relevant information. Experiences
would also be appreciated.

I keep fairly good backups and am considering a clean install but I use
quite a few programmes and the reinstallation will be tedious.

Your help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Excellent! Thank You!
Covers exactly the areas that I wanted to know about, esp. being sure of
getting 4k clusters.
Now, I only have to do it!

Cheers, Pat Clough.

Converting from FAT32 to NTFS is usually very successful and
you should not lose any programs or data. However, it is always
prudent to perform a backup of your critical data files, as a precautionary
measure, in the event something unforeseen happens. Of the many
systems I have performed a conversion, I've yet to encounter a problem.

Before converting, I would suggest performing a Disk Cleanup and
then Defrag your drive. Once the conversion is finished, Defrag
your drive once again. Be sure not to do anything with your computer
while the conversion to NTFS is under way.

If your read and follow the excellent advice
offered in the following article, you should
not have a problem converting your FAT32
drive to NTFS:
