I've used new Chinese made compatible cartridges in an Epson Stylus
600 successfully for years in USA.
Cost has been $2 per cartridge. Performance has been superior to
genuine Epson ink (fewer clogs, looks good). Superb product.

Now compatible cartridges are disappearing from suppliers due to
"Epson lawsuit." Can anyone post links to with articulate
description > of "Epson lawsuit?"

If you have a Cartridge World outlet near you, I would suggest a visit.
They supply their own brand of Epson compatibile cartridges which I
understand will not be in conflict with Epson's legal stance. If you have
any original Epson cartridges they may be able to refill them for you or
even supply Prefilled originals for you.

They could Buy good OEM ink
Using genuine Epson cartridges is
That is just a word. There is no such thing.

Of course this guy wants to hide his email address.
Recent poster said a non-technical friend had bought Too good of advice huh
I will never buy another Epson product as long as I live. Good
Go get a bird and pull the feathers out and grind up some coal and water
and use that.

So this is what the holier than thou promotes.

Hence... this is why after many years of being a loyal Epson user I
have decided to switch to Canon.... I bought a brand new Canon Pixma
ip6000D on Ebay... it is a non chipped printer... I can get compatible
cartridges for it for less than $1.00 each.
You no longer have a Canon designed and engineered printer
All Epson did was screw the customers and in turn... screwed themselves.
They saved many customers from the disadvantages of crap ink and
possibly screwing up their printer.
People are are starting to go with Canon printers now... because
at least in the standard and wide (17") format they are better.
a Canon can do anything an Epson can do...
It is obvious this person does not know what they are talking about even
though I like Canon better. In the US Canon cannot print directly on
CD/DVD.

The lawsuit actually only affects a few specific types of tanks, but this
has not stopped some suppliers from halting all sales.
The smart ones who know they are in violation

Try to get a older Canon like a IP4000...easy to refill and
compatibles are also available.

I spent an awful half day in Buffalo (not Buffalo's fault) a few years ago and
I can testify that I was in the US. The next two days were spent at Niagara
Falls (Canadian side), just fabulous and I can testify that I was in Canada,
confirmed by Canadian immigration. Nice people too I must say.
Tony
I can confirm that. My last two years of college were spent at the
University of Buffalo, and it was definitely in the US, New York State
to be specific. I went through there last December on my way to the
Niagara Falls, Ontario Winter Festival, and it was still part of the US.
Had that status changed, I'm sure it would have been in all the papers.

BTW, the Fallsview Casino has an excellent buffet.

Yes, of course it can. I bought my adapter kit for my Canon iP5000 and
iP4000 to print on CD/DVDs on eBay from a seller in Buffalo, NY. Last I
checked that was in the US. Anyone with a Canon "can" print on CD/DVDs
if they want it to.

-Taliesyn
You are twisting the facts. You modified a product produced by Canon.
In the USA Canon does not mfg nor produce nor sell a printer that prints
on CD/DVD. That is what Canon Says. Period. That makes you jerks
claim to know more than the mfg.

NO, I did not modify it, Canon MODIFIED IT! I bought an adapter kit
(actually OEM missing parts) and put it back THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED BY
CANON TO OPERATE - AS A CD/DVD CAPABLE PRINTER! Just because Canon
removes a bunch of parts from US models does not mean we must leave it
that way. Not all of us are mindless jerks kissing corporate bums. Those
of us fortunate to have a brain can put the printer back the way
CANON DESIGNED IT. Stop jerking the truth!!!! YOU yourself have a
MODIFIED printer that's MISSING PARTS. Yes, it's missing parts! The
rest of us have the complete version AS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED by Canon.

You really outta contact Canon about those missing parts . . .

-Taliesyn

His printer isn't the only thing he has that's missing parts. ;-)

Canon designed the US model not to have that capability. Look at their
website and ask their USA tech support.

Said like a stupid kid which is what you are on both counts.

There is no such thing as "Canon designed the US model". It's merely a
stripped down world model. The missing parts can be bought on the open
market, in the US, in order to bring them back the way the printers were
originally designed to be sold.

Look at their

Jealousy will get you nowhere. This "stupid kid" has the complete Canon
iP4000, iP5000, and the iP4500 CD/DVD enabled printers - the way Canon
designed them. You, on the other hand (I don't name call, I'm not a
troll) have a MODIFIED - yes, modified Canon iP4000 printer, one with
with parts missing. Anyone who buys the missing parts then has the
complete Canon printer.
That is not what Canon Tech Support or their website says. I am sure
Canon knows more about Canon than you do.

You really can't be that naive, can you? Measekite, I have some
startling news for you. Sometimes, corporations lie when it suits their
purposes. Even your beloved Canon could be doing this.

Canon disabled the CD/DVD printing capability on US printers to avoid US
lawsuits over them enabling piracy. They didn't go to all the trouble of
designing a separate printer for the US, they just left off some parts.
If you buy these parts from a third party, Canon can't be held liable
for what you do with them.

They're just saving their own butts. Everybody but you seems to realize
this.

Interesting that at the official Canon websites in US & Canada the
iP4500 is listed for the same price (about the same currency exchange
rate), yet the Canadian model comes CD/DVD enabled (with the tray). In
plain English, it comes with the parts that haven't been put in on the
modified US printers. This little detail is not mentioned on the specs
page for the iP4500 in Canada, but listed when you click on the "buy"
link. This hidden spec, no doubt, is to discourage US citizens from
buying their printers from Canada.

If you take parts out, it's a modified Canon printer and not as
originally designed by Canon. This inarguable truth cannot be argued.

I think that you have had parts taken out

When they say in writing that the printer does not support cd printing
they are lying. Well they can get sued for that. Maybe that is what
you should do.

Canon disabled
meaning devoid of the capability
