Sorry for this lamer question but i need to verify compatibility
issues between my motherboard and some used memory chipsets that
someone is willing to sell me. Since i know almost nothing about hw i
am asking here what/where should i look for.

You mean memory modules?
First, look at the motherboard manual if you have it. It will list
what memory types it supports. If you haven't got that, but know what
the motherboard model number and manufacturer are, look up this
information at the manufacturer website. If you don't know what the
motherboard is, you can usually figure it out by looking at the board.
Often the model name is etched into the board somewhere (someplace
where it's obvious that it's not labelling some part, and it's not
part of the circuitry).
Once you know what the motherboard supports, the next step is figuring
out what type of RAM you're looking at. I guess the easiest way to do
that is simply to ask the seller. He may or may not know the answer,
but if he does, and you believe him, great. If you don't believe him,
you probably shouldn't be buying anything from him.
If neither of you know, you can look at the modules and get the
numbers off the chips and the module board. That might give you some
clues to the type of RAM it is -- you can often search for these
numbers online.
I'm sure there are easier and better methods, but none that I can
think of just now.
