Has anyone had any experience with an "infinite loop" message using an ATI
Radeon 8500 under XP Pro?

I've read that power supplies are the main culprits but I'd like to hear
some other opinions before I go out and buy a new power supply.

Cheers,

- Ian

Ian,
I have a similar setup - XP with an ATI Radeon 8500 with the latest drivers
and I have no problems with it. When I built this system I installed an
Antec PSU. I can't stress enough how important a good PSU is. EVERYTHING
depends on the power supply so a good one is worth it's wieght in gold.

I suffered from the infinite loop for about 4 months about 6 months ago with
a KT333 chipset 133 & 166 fsb with Windows XP. Unknown to me at the time it
started when I enabled APIC mode in the BIOS - I did this becuase 1) it was
listed as an option to increase performance by the motherboard manufacturer
2) I restored a GHOST image of Windows XP which was an APIC enabled build
therefore I had to run APIC mode

I got it trying to improve performance I totally understand how I got rid of
it. With APIC mode enabled my system did not have the infinite loop if I
loaded BIOS FAIL SAFE settings and a 133fsb - at 166fsb however I still had
infinite loop.

I settled for 133fsb for a couple of months before re-installed Windows XP
with APIC mode disabled after which I was able to run any BIOS settings I
wanted without the infinite loop. See my postings on the subject here
