To Whom It May Concern;

Please help. I am going crazy.

My computer (OS Windows XP Home edition with Norton System works 2003) shuts down while doing a full system scan using Norton antivirus 2003, burning CDs, right clicking on Start button, when searching for files, and so on (not all the time; but, pretty often). I have all my virus definitions up to date and I keep my updating windows. I have searched and use the latest removal tools from symantec websites and it keeps shutting down.

I have so much information in my PC. I am a PhD student and I can not back up my info with my computer shutting down nor I can burn any CDs for the same reason.

Please help. (my computer may be shutting down in a few minutes)

Thanks,

Thanks,

If you've checked all the software issues, it could be overheating or a pad
power supply. Do you get any error messages, or does it just shut down? Have
you checked the event log to see if there are any warning messages?

It's possible that your computer is shutting down due to high temperature.
Do you have software on your computer that displays temperatures of the CPU,
case, etc. temps? Most motherboards have that capability. You may need to
open the case, check to see if all fans are running (on the CPU, power
supply, chip set, video card, etc.) Also clean any accumulation of dust,
lint, etc. from the fans and heat sinks. If you can read the temperatures,
post back what they are.
