During driver installation of Linksys wireless network
adaptor in my IBM laptop, I get the error message: "An
error occurred during the installation of the device.
The INF or the device information set or element does not
match the specified install class."

I followed the instructions in KB 306983, but the
specified registry keys for the laptop do not exist. I
did find the registry keys that are supposed to apply
only to a desktop, and then performed the suggested
deletions, but this had no effect on the problem.

This adaptor used to work fine in this computer and then
one day it just stopped. I've already tried another
adaptor.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

In KB 306983 the "3Com EtherLink " is just for example.
Look for the Linksys. If still not sure, please contact Linksys support.

In any case the registry surgery described in KB 306983 is very non trivial,
and I'd never recommend it to end users.
