Is anyone aware of a valid program running inetinfo.exe and using about 25%
of the available physical RAM?

I was getting ready to install some new software on my Win2K server and I
wanted to check available RAM. I currently have 1GB installed and the
server is only running a Pervasive SQL DB package and is the only AD
controller on the network (only server too!). When I saw so little physical
RAM available, I checked to see what was running and I found that
INETINFO.EXE was running and it indicated that it was using about 208,736KB
of RAM. Has anyone else experienced this?

I was aware of some worms/viruses that would drop a file and run it with the
same name, but I have scanned for viruses and nothing has come up. Any
information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Allen Clark

Hi Allen,

The inetinfo.exe is a component of the Internet Information service. You
said that you only running a SQL Database application on the server. Does
the application needs the Internet Information service?

If yes, the behavior is normal. Many clients may access the server and run
the application through the Internet Explorer. The IIS should use some
system resource.

If not, you also can remove the IIS from the Add/Remove Programs.

By the way, do you have installed the Windows 2000 SP4? If not please
install it. And, you use which version SQL server? Please also make sure
you have installed the latest service pack of the SQL server.

Thanks for using Microsoft Newsgroup!

Sincerely,
