I have had ie6 and running fine for over a year
then I upgraded / installed Norton Internect Security
2004 Pro (from 2002 pro)

Now when I try to visit the update center at microsoft is
tells me
Thank you for your interest in Windows Update

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that
helps you get the most out of your computer.

You must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system
in order to use Windows Update.

What do i need to do to fix the error
 
Well your running in stealth mode so even Microsoft can't detect what
operating system your running :)
You can allow access to update and then put it back to your previous
setting. It may be a pain doing it
every time you update but at least you know your not broadcasting.
