When I get to step 3 of the wizard, where you type in ISP
name,or what you want to call it, no matter what we put,
this message comes up "name" is not a valid name.it must
contain at least one character that is not a space and can
not begin with a period."
Where "name" is the ISP or the name you give it, we have
put all sorts of names here and they all get the same
message, as though the entry is not recognised at all ??
Since you can't continue you cant connect. The original
connection we have used for a while has gone?

You don't need this wizard, you can configure everythin from the "control
panel", with "Internet settings" and "Network and dial-up connections" (and
"Phone and Modem connections"). - supposed that that wizard is really
broken.
I don't have a modem, all I can tell is that I want to setup with the wizard
as I would have a modem, the wizard pops up a window where I must set phone
number (it's getting difficult to estimate what is 3rd step in your
opinion).
If you use a LAN, the 3rd step is to input proxies. " ISP
name,or what you want to call it"? Those proxies has to be quasi-valid
cumputer names (such as myproxy.mydomain.com) or IPs (in format x.x.x.x,
where x are decimal numbers between 0 and 255, and the first and tha last
one are not 0, and also another limitations). It is not checked at that time
if you entered a real computer (the connection does not get verified at that
time).
