Is it possible to improve Activities performance by
indexing folders in a pst and ost??

ie when you open the contact and select the activities
Tab.

Regards.

Indexing them how? I don't understand what you are trying to do to improve
what process?

I think that what he's getting-at is an internal indexing mechanism for
performance purposes, which Outlook has always (apparently) lacked .

When you look in the "Activities" tab for a contact, for example, OL
appears to be doing a (often times painfully) slow "search" for all
matching activities (I've done this on an archive file with years worth
of data).

A lot of other PIMs & contact managers (the old Lotus Organizer, for
example) apparently maintain an index of items related to a contact
inernally, so the display of something comparable to the "Activities"
tab in OL appears almost instantly, rather than having to search anew
each time.

It's one of the things that's always left me wondering, "What were they
thinking?" in Outlook, but then... Me with my years and years worth of
archived data might not be the "target application" they had in mind.

Thanks Tom.

Does that mean that there isn't a mechanism for improving
the performance when using the Activities Tab?

When On line I know I could look at using indexing on the
Web Storage System however my issue is with offline use
ie OST/PST.

Thanks Damian

Well, Damian, mine's not an "official" answer, but I've been looking for
a way to improve the performance of the activities tab for years (through
many versions of OL) to no avail. It's always struck me as odd that it's
not one of the "big gripes," as I've never seen another PIM/contact
management system that doesn't index, but alas.

My only experience with OL is with PSTs, so it sounds like we're looking
for the same thing. I just don't think it's there.

Maybe one of the MVPs can jump-in and confirm that?
