Hi All,
Indexing was working fine on my machine in RC1 and i love it by the way,
anyway, all of a sudden i type a search in at the bottom of the start menu
and the search menu pops up with this "Your searches might be slow because
the index is not running. Click to turn on the index..." So i click and
choose 'turn on index' from the popup menu and a popup comes up and says "do
you want to turn on the index?" I hit the button 'Turn on index'. Then i get
the security screen popup that asks for my permission to turn this on and it
says "If you started this action continue" "Update indexer status Microsoft
Windows Publisher" I hit the ok button and pop back into normal mode thinking
all is well. I type in my search term again and voila...the same thing pops
up again telling me the indexing is off.
So i hit the search options and nothing in there. So i hit the 'modify index
locations' under the search tools button and i get the popup that says
"indexing is not running" and the modify button and the advanced button are
greyed out and the only option i have is 'close'. Aaarggghh.
So i think hey, let me see if search is a service that i can turn on. So i
go to control panel - administrative tools - services and down at the bottom
i see 'windows search' Hey, this could be it. I hit start on the service and
the green bar fills to about 10% and then i get a warning that says "Windows
could not start the Windows Search on Local Computer. For more information,
review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the
service vendor and refer to service-specific error code -2147218121."
This is VERY frustrating. I LOVE the new search and now it doesnt work. As i
said before, it was working just fine and then just stoped. I have done a
system restore back to a point when i know it was working and nothing. Does
anyone have any ideas for me. I am miffed. I want my indexing back!
thx in advance.
Matt.
Other than this issue, i am LOVING Vista. Nice work!
