When I open up my project, I find that FrontPage as changed all my pages to
"Index".
I think has something to do with the fact that I would like my linked pages
to open up in the main window of my Index page.

Where are you seeing that they are all changed to "index."
What exactly is named "index" ??

Do you mean ALL files have been renamed to Index or just your home page?
