Index.Dat Suite Won't Delete Temporary files

I have run Index.Dat Suite many times but it never appears to delete the
c:\tempor~1\content.ie5\index.dat file on re-starting the PC.

On running the program, the run.bat file is added to the RunOnce
registry key and indeed this seems to execute on restarting the PC.
But when I rerun Index.Dat Suite, the original data is still there in
the c:\tempor~1\ folder.

If I manually execute the run.bat file from DOS, then it's OK. So, why
doesn't the automatic procedure work?

I also note that Spider has no problems in deleting.

Can anyone help?

Index.dat file is already in use when the run.bat is run at start-up (is too
late, so will fail to delete the file - the explorer already runs and the
file is locked).
For the same reason I switched to System Security Suite that doesn't use the
start-up registry key to delete the file but Windows API functions (like the
installation programs does).

Are the file sizes of he index.dat files the same after rebooting?
Remember that Windows recreates those files every time it restarts, if
they're not there. Index.dat Suite works fine for me, since the three
index.dat files I find are always 32, 32 and 16 kb respectively. This
is their empty sizes. Also, further into using Windows a fourth one is
created. I'm using Windows ME with Moz 1.6 Final.

Thanks for the explanation, but in that case I don't see how Index.Dat
Suite can ever expect to run successfully and surely somebody would have
sussed that out and reported it by now?

Even so, I downloaded System Security Suite and that work's a treat. No
problems.

Again, thanks for the advice

Actually I test Index.dat Suite on both my 9x systems and my XP Pro system
before releasing the new version, and have never come accross the file being
locked (it always run's the batch file, and deletes the file's/clears the
folders, as it should).

As for the API, the API that is available to clear file's on the next
re-boot, is only available in XP and above, it is not present on 9x
platforms. I looked into this when I first heard about, and actually tried
to include it specifically for non-9x systems. Unfortunately, it kept
crashing the program, so I had to remove it and revert back to the batch
file.

When you mention the original data still being there, do you mean the
index.dat file's?, and if so, as John asked, are the sizes still the same?.

Unfortunately, one of the things people that use Index.dat Suite, do not
seem to understand is, the only items that will be included in the generated
file, are those items that are UNTICKED. Ticked items will NOT be included.
Strangely, this appears to be the number one cause of the behaviour you are
describing. I've tried in later versions, to make this a little clearer.

Why not pre-check them all then, which would perhaps be more
intuitive. Of course, all current users will have to adjust their
thinking, but I bet they're up to it.

Cheers,

I had IDS ticking them automatically in an earlier version but, as only the
unticked items are included, I kept getting complaints that none of the
items were being included and this, decided to leave them all unticked as
default instead.
