Hey All,

Does anyone know of a way or tool that can be used to view
the contents of the history/index.dat files?? I need a way
to view them from user profiles on a different machine to
verify sites that a particular user has visited.

Thanks in advance for any help!
replies via email are ok.

Vern,
You will have to copy the index.dat to a different folder\drive in order to
"view".
You will be prevented from viewing while in "Windows" due to "file in use"
(system file).

Hi Vern,

While you can open the file index.dat from other user profile, this file
contents will not be in "clear-text". You need to use a third-party utility
to see the URLs and contents of this file.

You may use a third-party software such as History Reader.

If you just want to see a sample of the URLs visited (timestamps
will be binary strings unfortunately) you could use Mike's copy suggestion
and then this:

find /i "Visited:" index.dat

Robert,
I find "BinText Viewer" works very well .... strips out the junk ;)

Great for "viewing" dll's, .dat, .ocx, etc. ........
