Richard

I am having a problem with Norton Fast & Safe Cleanup not
clearing everything that it should do. I contacted Norton
and explained what was happening and they said it is due
to a corrupt index.dat file and told me to contact
microsoft to get advice about removing the file. I have
tried removing it to a floppy and then seeing what happens
but cannot as my security setting will not allow me to do
this. Can anyone help or advise?

Thank you

Richard,
Possibly your cache folder is corrupt:

Purging index.dat see the Cleanall references:

With WinXp you need special considerations. You need to place a shortcut
into the Runonce registry key to delete index.dat before it is locked by
Windows.
Post back if you need more details.

Thanks for the help. I have deleted the History and the
Temporary Internet files but for some reason the system
will not let me delete the index.dat file because of the
security settings. I have changed the security settings
but it still will not delete. Also I cannot move the
index.dat file for the same reason.

I am loggedon as administrator.

Any more ideas?

Thanx.

You cannot delete the History and TIF folders from the same account, even if logged in as administrator. Create another account with administrator rights and delete those folders in your account from there.
